ok a minor exaggeration since I'm not likely going to put a compiler on the tablet, but I think I could do nearly all of my typical personal tasks (if that's what we're calling screwing around these days) on this device. Even the hardware design is of good quality. It has some weight to it, which honestly I appreciate to a degree. The camera is OK. It updated to Android ICS and comes with the true Android Marketplace (now Google Play). I am delighted and have already recommended it to a friend.

Well if you’re the owner of either of those devices, you might be disappointed to learn that according to an Acer UK spokesperson, it seems that those tablets will not be seeing the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. We’re not sure why but it’s still pretty disappointing news for many. On the upside we guess that thanks to the rather active Android developers community, there are Jelly Bean-based ROMs for your tablets that you can always check out, although we guess that this means that you will need a little technical know-how if you want to install them. If you don’t mind using Android 4.0 ICS then we guess it’s not really that big of a deal, but if you want the Jelly Bean experience, it’s time to start doing your homework!

We say, that's about right. In our standard battery test, which involves playing the same movie on repeat with WiFi on and the brightness set to 50 percent, it lasted four hours and 54 minutes. The numbers don't lie: that's one of the shortest runtimes we've recorded on a tablet. Why, even the original Samsung Galaxy Tab lasted six hours and change. Not to mention -- after the 10-inch Iconia Tab A500 crapped out after less than seven hours, we would have hoped that Acer would have gone back to the drawing board and paid more attention to battery life, especially since the A100 was late to market anyway. It would seem that Acer either sacrificed a larger battery to keep the tablet small, or it wrongfully assumed that mainstream consumers don't care about longevity. Either way, we'd say that treating battery life as an afterthought is unwise.

We’ve heard a few reports that the update is in the testing phase, so this could be a sign that things aren’t going as well as planed. The tablets were late to receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, so we can’t expect them to be fast like ASUS to Jelly Bean either. We’ve reached out for additional comments and will report back. So far what we’re hearing today isn’t good. There’s multiple custom ROM’s already available for those who want Jelly Bean, but an official update would be nice. Stay tuned!

Eingaben werden schnell angezeigt, das Iconia A100 liefert auch Korrekturvorschläge. Für Ziffern und Sonderzeichen müssen Sie die Tastaturanzeige umschalten. Bei unserem Testgerät funktionierte die Tastatur hin und wieder nicht zuverlässig: Sie verschluckte Eingaben oder zeigte nach einem Tastendruck mehrere Buchstaben an. Ein weiteres Fehlerphänomen war, dass die Tastatur nach der Eingabe eines beliebigen Zeichens sofort ausgeblendet wurde. Nach einem Neustart funktionierte die Tastatur dann wieder wie erwartet, doch nach einiger Zeit mussten wir das Fehlverhalten erneut beobachten.
